Tulip Planting Just Got Easier

If you’re a “bulbs gone wild” kind of person or you know someone who fits that label, you need to listen up!  There’s no doubt that tulip planting now will bring great joy next spring.  There’s nothing like wading through months of winter gray and istocktulipbedwaking up to bursts of color from tulips and daffodils and hyacinths dotting your garden.  I love it.  But I don’t always enjoy the planting process – especially when I have a bunch of bulbs that need to go in the ground.

Now I think fall bulbs are really pretty inexpensive so I tend to go a bit crazy buying them.  (Especially when you can order online and save $25 on a $50 order at Brecks.)

Bulbs provide a great bang for your buck and the vibrant colors just can’t be beat.  And after they’re in the ground, they’re virtually maintenance free.  Planting 10 or 20 bulbs is no big deal.  But planting 50, 60, 80, or even more tends to take some of the fun out of it.  I’ve done it, so I know.

Power Bulb Planter

Power Bulb Planter

But this new nifty tool makes tulip planting a breeze and makes a great gardening gift!  With the help of your standard power drill, this Power Bulb Planter does all the work.  The stainless steel cylinder, attached to the drill, creates 2″ wide holes and up to 9″ deep.   And if you need a bigger hole for bigger bulbs, dig two holes side by side.  I can’t even imagine how easy planting tulip bulbs will be now.  And my gardens will be gorgeous next spring!

Garden Knife

Garden Knife

If your beds are in pretty good shape, here are a couple of tools that work well for planting those much smaller bulbs (like grape hyacinths and snowdrops).

The Multi-Purpose Garden Knife is just a great all-around tool for lots of jobs in the garden.  When planting small bulbs, just stick the knife in the dirt to the depth you want (the stainless steel blade is marked in 1″ increments), rock it back to create the hole, plop in the bulb, remove the knife and fill in the hole.  It has one serrated edge and one sharpened straight edge as well as a notch for cutting twine, a dandelion popper at the tip, and a slightly scooped blade shape for planting.   The perfect all-in-one gift for any gardener on your list!

Soil Scoop

Soil Scoop

Even though I’ve never used this Soil Scoop, it certainly looks intriguing!  It’s patented spoon shape has serrated edges and a pointed tip.  The customer reviews are great so I thought you should see it.  Apparently it’s a good tool for scooping, planting, digging, and weeding.  If you have used it, let me know what you think.  It sounds like another good multi-purpose gardening tool.

Planting tulips just got easier!  These three ideas for great gardening gifts - the Power Bulb Planter, the Garden Knife, and the Soil Scoop - are functional, multi-purpose tools that will lighten your gardening chores.  And all are less than $30 each!   They sound like great gifts for any gardener on your list, and for you, too!

Be sure to check out Breck’s amazing selection of tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, crocus, and many more bulbs that come straight from Holland.  Maybe one of the Super Sak mixed collections will catch your eye.   Not only are many of the packages on sale, you can also qualify for another $25 discount on your $50 order!  Make your selections and order now.  Breck’s will ship your order when it’s appropriate for planting in your area.  It’s almost here so get ready now!

Planting fall bulbs gets our green thumbs up!
