Showing Off My August Garden Slideshow

100_2323My backyard garden looks the best right now than it has looked all year.  The beds are in bloom (just waiting for the asters to come to life this fall) and most of the containers look great.  But I know the rain predicted for tonight and tomorrow will tarnish some of this colorful display so it’s best to preserve the memories now with this slideshow!

I’ve become a believer in taking garden photos because otherwise, I just don’t remember what happened!    As I’ve said many times, pictures provide a great record of what worked and what didn’t quite meet my expectations. Another helpful reminder is the date stamp – really helpful in remembering how the garden progressed through the growing season.  And, those cold winter days seem a little bit warmer when I can look at pictures showing lots of color, sunshine, and a promise of spring to come.

Most of these garden photos were taken this morning with a few taken earlier this month.  As you can see the hanging bougainvillea finally started to bloom (wintered over in my basement last year), the star jasmine is coming to life more every day (and the bees love it), the liriope is in full bloom, the cleomes are standing tall and ready for the beginning of seed harvesting,  the sweet potato vine has gone crazy on the deck, and Millie surveys her territory by the mandevilla!

Since plants look bright and perky in the morning, it’s best to take pictures before the sun gets too high.   However, sometimes late afternoon works OK, too, if the temperature hasn’t been too hot and the plants have had a good drink.  I’ve learned that mid-day photo sessions just aren’t worth the time and effort. The light isn’t right and the plants don’t look their best.

Why don’t you plan to go out in the morning and take some shots of your garden? Experiment with the angles and the zoom. A few close ups will look great in your slideshow! Then click here to make your own Smilebox slideshow!

These fun, easy Smilebox slideshows get our green thumbs up!
